I was born within earshot of the Kingston Bypass and went to school in the City.
The daily walk from Waterloo Station along the river, past the Bankside power station, the bombsites, the Victorian pubs that the bombs had missed, and then across Blackfriars Bridge had a huge effect on me and sowed the seeds of my lifelong love of London and fascination with its history.
I’ve lived a few other places since then, but London is home. These days I live in Whitechapel.
I’m a maritime historian and work as a research consultant for salvage companies helping to locate shipwrecks and recover lost cargos. I’ve written several books about shipwrecks and appeared in documentaries for Channel 4 and Discovery.
